The Spiritual Life Christian Fellowship Church is so new they don`t even have their sign up yet.
"We`re in
the very infant stages of growth,” says Pastor Bob Adkins.
Pastor Adkins is excited about having a place
his congregation can call home.
"To be honest, it`s a very humbling experience, to know God would choose me to
be able to get up there and speak the word and lead people to a closer walk with him,” says Adkins.
Just
the fact that Pastor Adkins is walking is a miracle. Complications from a back surgery last year left the Pastor paralyzed
from the waste down and in a wheelchair for several months.
"A miracle just happened. I was up on a walker, then
on a cane and then the next thing you know I was sharing a testimony with someone else about how God got me out of a wheelchair
and off the walker, and I`m walking without my cane,” says the Pastor.
Now his days are filled with extensive
paperwork to register Spiritual Life as an official church. Churches do not pay property taxes, but to get their exempt status
they have to prove it to the government.
"We basically have to show that we are meeting for religious purposes
and you`re not doing anything that`s for a profit basis,” says Adkins.
Unlike Catholic or other longstanding
church denominations that have their doctrine already in place, Spiritual Life Church has to write that too. Pastor Adkins
has been working on all the paperwork for four months.
"Technically you`re not covered by the non-profits rules
and regulations of the government without doing that so it`s an in-depth process,” says Pastor Adkins.
It’s
a process that Pastor Adkins is happy to be ‘walking’ through.
Spiritual Life Fellowship has moved
into the old River of Life Church at 400 North Main Street.
They`ll be holding their first service Sunday, March
16th at 10:30 a.m. |
